Compeau & Olivera (2014) From 'Theory Light' To Theorizing: A Reaction to Avison and Malaurent

Abstract

The authors discuss an information systems (IS) research from David Avison and Julien Malaurent which identifies problems associated with theory-based papers and presents a solution. They agree with the study's authors about their concerns on the negative consequences of placing too much emphasis on theory in IS research. However, they oppose the solution that the authors recommended about labeling works as theory light in order to encourage paper submissions from writers.
